During 2011 we are be celebrating the 125th anniversary of the 1st Glasgow's first ever BB Camp at Tighnabruich. Camps today take many different forms but recent research shows that residential events are one of the most popular activities for our members, indeed many people still talk of camp being the highlight of the BB year.
The Brigade Executive is keen to encourage all Companies to give their young people the opportunity to attend at least one residential event next year. If you have not been to camp for a while why give it try again..
Badge & Certificates
The Boys' Brigade is marking the anniversary with the production of a special badge that can be awarded to children and young people who attend a residential event during the year. There will also be a certificate for each person, and a Company certificate to record all those attending the event.
Badges can be purchased from BB Supplies (Code: 02 434 1 Price - £1.25 each) and certificates can be downloaded (see below) and printed (at no cost) or are available to order through the Online Print Service.
The badge will be worn on the right armband to the right of the service badge and can be worn throughout a member's service. The award is to be made at the discretion of the Company and the only requirement is that the young person participates in a suitable residential event (indoors or outdoors,) for a minimum of one night.
Companies are reminded that all relevant Brigade Regulations covering residential activity should be followed.
Competition
We are also launching a UK wide competition to help mark the anniversary.
Send us the best memory of your camp or residential event this year. It could be a photo, drawing, video or even a camp song. The competition is now open and runs until 31st October. Send your entries to 125camping@boys-brigade.org.uk or to your Regional Headquarters. Prizes can be won by any Junior, Company or Senior Section.
